How to identify Capsule Lamp

Capsule lamps have compact clear or translucent envelopes and are identified primarily by their pin or loop-contact base, such as G4, G9, GY6.35 or G8.

Common applications

Decorative pendants, cabinet lights, wall fixtures, display cases, marine fittings and compact task lights.

Technologies and base options

Capsule lamps are made in halogen, xenon and LED forms. They may use low voltage or mains voltage and straight pins, loop pins or different pin diameters.

How to select the correct lamp

Match the base visually and by pin spacing, then confirm voltage, wattage, AC/DC operation, transformer compatibility and enclosure clearance.

Compatibility and safety

G4 and G9 are not interchangeable. LED replacements may also be wider or longer than the halogen capsule they replace.
