BR40

A large broad-reflector format used in spacious recessed fixtures and high-output flood applications.

Available Bulb Base

A large broad-reflector format used in spacious recessed fixtures and high-output flood applications.

How to identify BR40

BR40 is nominally 40 eighths of an inch—5 inches—in diameter and is visibly larger than BR30.

Common applications

Large recessed cans, high ceilings, retail floors, auditoriums, workshops and utility spaces.

Technologies and base options

BR40 lamps exist in several technologies and output ranges, usually with medium screw bases.

Technologies represented in this library: LED, Incandescent, Halogen, Fluorescent.

Available base types: E26, E27.

Typical market availability

Technology Common wattage range Typical lumen range Common colour temperatures Common voltage options
LED 12–25 W 1000–2500 lm 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, 5000K, 6500K 120V; 220–240V
INCANDESCENT 65–150 W 700–2000 lm Approximately 2700K 120V; 220–240V
HALOGEN 70–120 W 1000–1800 lm Approximately 2800K–3000K 120V; 220–240V
FLUORESCENT 23–32 W 1200–1800 lm 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4100K 120V; 220–240V

These are representative market ranges, not guaranteed limits. Availability varies by manufacturer, voltage, base, beam, region and product generation.

How to select the correct lamp

Confirm the five-inch envelope and overall length fit the trim and housing before comparing light output, beam and colour.

Compatibility and safety

A shared E26 or E27 base does not mean a BR40 will fit a fixture designed for BR30.

Important: The library describes a lamp format, not a particular product. A shared shape does not guarantee matching voltage, base, dimensions, light distribution or control-gear requirements. Confirm the fixture label and product datasheet, or ask a Bulb World lighting specialist.

Replacement Notes

Confirm the five-inch envelope and overall length fit the trim and housing before comparing light output, beam and colour.

Capability Warning

A shared E26 or E27 base does not mean a BR40 will fit a fixture designed for BR30.
