MR16

A compact multifaceted-reflector format used for precise accent and display lighting.

Bulb Technology

A compact multifaceted-reflector format used for precise accent and display lighting.

How to identify MR16

MR means multifaceted reflector. The number 16 indicates a nominal diameter of 16 eighths of an inch, or 2 inches.

Common applications

Track heads, landscape lights, display cases, galleries, hotels, restaurants and precision task lighting.

Technologies and base options

MR16 describes the envelope, not the base or voltage. Versions may use straight-pin GU5.3-style bases or twist-lock GU10/GZ10 bases and may operate at low voltage or mains voltage.

Technologies represented in this library: LED, Halogen.

Available base types: GU5.3, GU10, GX5.3, GZ10.

Typical market availability

Technology Common wattage range Typical lumen range Common colour temperatures Common voltage options
LED 3.5–10 W 250–800 lm 2200K, 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, 5000K, 6500K 12V AC/DC; 120V; 220–240V, depending on base
HALOGEN 20–75 W 200–1200 lm Approximately 2800K–3200K 12V; 24V; 120V; 220–240V

These are representative market ranges, not guaranteed limits. Availability varies by manufacturer, voltage, base, beam, region and product generation.

How to select the correct lamp

Identify the actual base and operating voltage before comparing beam angle, lumens, transformer compatibility, dimming and fixture clearance.

Compatibility and safety

GU5.3 and GU10 MR16 lamps are not interchangeable. Their contacts, locking methods and typical operating voltages differ.

Important: The library describes a lamp format, not a particular product. A shared shape does not guarantee matching voltage, base, dimensions, light distribution or control-gear requirements. Confirm the fixture label and product datasheet, or ask a Bulb World lighting specialist.

Replacement Notes

Identify the actual base and operating voltage before comparing beam angle, lumens, transformer compatibility, dimming and fixture clearance.

Capability Warning

GU5.3 and GU10 MR16 lamps are not interchangeable. Their contacts, locking methods and typical operating voltages differ.
